Description    At Synthetic Genomics, Inc., we are dedicated to developing and commercializing genomic-driven solutions to address global challenges. We are currently seeking several temporary Research Associates to join our Microbial Discovery group in the fast-growing, dynamic and collaborative team in La Jolla, CA.
Requirements Responsibilities:
The Temporary Research Associate will provide support in several areas related to strain isolation and characterization for the development of agricultural microbes to commercially relevant end-points.
- Contribute to a team effort aimed at the isolation and characterization of plant-associated microbial communities.
- Provide support in the isolation of nucleic acids from plant associated microbes
- Cultivate, isolate, and monitor the growth of strains by microscopy, flow cytometric cell sorting, and other techniques.
- Assist Scientists and Research Associates in setting up experiments for the physiological characterization of isolated strains.
- Track sample and strain data information in databases.
- Prepare laboratory media, buffers, and solutions.
- Simultaneously perform multiple tasts as required in coordination with teammates.
- Maintain a culture of safety in the laboratories and scaled facilities.
- Comply with Synthetic Genomics company policies including observance of US and California laws and regulations.

Required:
- Bachelors Degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or related life sciences fields.
- Knowledge and proficiency in aseptic techniques.
- Excellent communication skills.
- High degree of motivation.

Preferred:
- Relevant laboratory experience in a biotechnology setting.
- Demonstrated experience handling bacteria, fungi, or algae.
- Familiarity with DNA extraction techniques, nucleic acid quantification methods, PCR, and advanced sequencing methods.
