Genomatica is seeking a highly motivated and independent lab assistant to perform lab support duties and basic prokaryotic strain engineering techniques. This is a full time position with benefits. Lab support responsibilities include washing glassware, autoclaving supplies, preparation of buffers and reagents, preparation of microbiological media and plates, and preparation of electrophoresis gels and buffers. Some basic procedures, such as: plasmid isolation, competent cell preparation, PCR and sequencing will also be performed. The ideal candidate will have at least 6 months of experience in a lab setting performing similar duties.
This is a service role to the lab which requires flexibility, open communication and the ability to take direction from multiple personnel. Due to a dynamic work load, time management skills are essential as well as the ability to multitask. This position is at the forefront of keeping the lab safe, clean and well organized and so applicants should be prepared to allocate some of their day towards these tasks. A successful applicant will have strong communication skills, be able to work in a team environment, have attention to detail, be organized and methodical, the ability to lift 50 pounds, mechanical aptitude and a strong work ethic.
Preference will be given to those committed to a career in the biotechnology field. This position has a strong track record of promotion to Research Associate, however, due to the investment in training and development that occurs, the candidate should expect up to 2 years in the role. Promotions typically require a strong track record of excellence, 2 years of experience in the role as well as an open position within Genomatica.
