Marine Biology Internships Available
The City of San Diego’s Environmental Monitoring and Technical Services Division of the Public Utilities Department is seeking motivated students to fill paid internship vacancies in the Marine Biology Laboratory. Appointments may last up to one year and are part-time up to 20 hours per week during school sessions and full-time up to 40 hours per week during extended breaks. Work is generally done Monday — Friday. Successful candidates will participate in a variety of projects including but not limited to:
- Collection of ocean samples including seawater, seafloor sediments, and marine fishes and invertebrates
- Creation of informational and outreach materials for public education
- Assisting City marine biologists with field and laboratory activities
- Special research projects
Qualifications: Must be currently enrolled (full or part-time) or accepted into an accredited academic institution. Previous course work in biology, marine biology, ecology, invertebrate zoology, environmental science or a related field is preferred but not required.
Compensation: $11.67 -$14.04 per hour depending on qualifications
