Position Summary and Responsibilities

Teledyne Marine Systems is seeking a manufacturing engineer to join its team to work with development engineering and production operations to ensure delivered products fully satisfy customer requirements.  He/She must be a self-starter and be able to work in a team environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare new processes and products for manufacturing and support existing processes and products
  • Identify and complete projects focused on reducing costs and improving cycle times
  • Perform failure analysis and utilize problem solving skills to determine root cause and implement corrective actions to eliminate root cause failures
  • Develop manufacturing processes and routings to optimize production flow, assembly methods and production equipment
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, equipment layout and by developing fixtures and tooling for assembly and test processes
  • Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies
  • Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results
  • Design, develop and test and/or sources and cost-justify various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods
  • Review of engineering drawings and bills of material (BOM) prior to release and initiate engineering change orders (ECOs) to correct/update released documents
  • Initiate product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement and improved efficiency
  • Perform supplier evaluations and make/buy analysis as requested
  • Candidate must possess U.S. citizenship or be a U.S. Person

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • BS in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial); MS desirable
  • Minimum 8 – 12 years of experience in Engineering/Manufacturing Engineering
  • Adept in statistical analysis, design for manufacturability (DFM), failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), gauge R & R, process capability and lean manufacturing
  • Experienced with fixture design, manufacturing equipment specification, cost analysis, supplier coordination and project management

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  •  Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software suite, Solid Works and 3-D solid modeling
  • Excellent coaching skills – ability to transfer knowledge to assembly and test technicians
  • Broad knowledge of electrical and mechanical testing and troubleshooting techniques
  • Uses professional concepts in developing resolution to critical issues and broad design matters
  • May serve as a “subject matter expert” to management and external spokesperson for the organization

  • Frequently exposed to odors, fumes, dust or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud
