Shift: Monday thru Friday; 40 – 45 hours per week, with flexibility

Employment Type: Full time internship

Blue Robotics is a small and rapidly growing company that designs and manufactures marine robotics components and vehicles to enable the future of ocean exploration. We do ambitious things to revolutionize the way humans learn about our oceans.

This is no typical company, and this is no typical internship. You will work on a team with our R&D engineers to solve big problems and your ideas will help drive the direction and growth of the company. Every day will bring a new challenge and you’ll have exposure to many different products, designs, technologies, and processes.

We’re looking for people who are driven, organized, and can handle independence in this role. You’ll be guided by our team of engineers, but given responsibility and projects of your own. Your work will have a tangible and direct impact every day on the future of understanding our oceans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in lab testing including assembly of test articles and application of test factors
  • Building and maintaining field test vehicles
  • Designing, assembling, and maintaining lab testing equipment
  • Iterative development and testing of new products. This includes:
      – Concept generation and problem solving
    1. – Writing requirements and other documentation
    1. – Creating new parts, assemblies, and drawings
    1. – Iteratively developing and testing prototypes
    1. – Collecting data and generating test reports
    1. – Working closely with new and existing suppliers
  • Creating and acting on engineering change requests (ECRs) and developing engineering change orders (ECOs). This includes:
      – Revising the designs of existing products
    1. – Creating and revising drawings
    1. – Working with suppliers to implement part changes
    1. – Testing and validating new changes
    1. – Generating engineering change documentation
    1. – Working with manufacturing to coordinate ECO validation and rollout
  • Participating in team meetings and communicating within and outside the R&D department

Essential Qualifications/Skills:

  • In-progress Bachelor’s degree in any Engineering discipline
  • Proficient with Solidworks, with previous demonstrated experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Capable of being self-managed and committed to working in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree in any Engineering discipline
  • Experience performing any of the “Essential Functions” above
  • Work experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience in taking ownership of engineering projects and pushing them through to completion. This includes project management experience.
  • Experience with Arduino and Raspberry Pi
  • Any robotics experience, including RC vehicles
  • Electrical interfacing, harnessing, and wiring experience
  • Soldering, machining, welding, fabrication, or 3D printing skills
