About Bedrock

Bedrock is operationalizing the largest Earth-exploration mission in human history. We’re doing that by developing robotics & software to explore, map, and classify the entirety of Earth’s ocean floor. The oceans are a critical component of climate stabilization. We are on our way to providing critical subsea data and infrastructure to further understand and predict the fundamental forces that support harmonious human existence on this planet.

We are looking for an additional software engineer to join our growing robotics team. In this role, you’ll have opportunities to work on the “full software stack” for our AUV, including sensor integration, actuation, sonar processing, guidance and navigation, fault detection and response, communications, and more, depending on your experience and interests. Our team is small and values collaborative coding and design; we have frequent design discussions, conduct code reviews for all vehicle code, and hold bi-weekly retrospectives to make sure we are implementing code infrastructure and best practices that will allow us to grow quickly and sustainably. We also value empowering each team member to take ownership of software design: through our onboarding process you should have code running on a testbed within the first week, on the AUV in a field test within a few weeks, and within the first few months you should be technical lead for a project in our roadmap.

Required Experience:

  • At least several years of experience with robotics platforms
  • Linux, C++, Python, ROS
  • Software communications via protocols such as serial, I2C, SPI, CAN
  • Telemetry data analysis, characterization, and root cause analysis
  • Software best practices, including testing

Bonus Experience:

  • Developing HITL, SITL, vehicle simulation and testing environments
  • Writing software for embedded systems
  • Software control of power electronics, motor actuation systems and feedback control systems
  • Robust command and control architectures and practices
  • Critical high reliability architecture
  • Secure communication protocols, GPS, satellite systems

We’re seeking ultra-determined people who aren’t afraid to pioneer new solutions and challenge conventional assumptions. Most of all, we’re looking for high-quality, good human beings with low egos who are purpose and mission driven. We are looking for someone who cares as much about the future of our life on earth as we do, and willing to take on the challenge together to face one of the greatest equalizers of technologies on the planet, the ocean. This role is required to be local to the Bay Area, as you will work directly with the mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and operators on the vehicle system hardware on-site as needed. We have a flexible remote work policy when there is no need to be hands on.
